The home of ANTIS Wines is a modern, technologically advanced winery located in a 40 acre vineyard at the foothills of the Andes mountains in Rodeo del Medio, at the heart of the Maipu district in Mendoza. The seeds of the winery date back some 90-odd years when the Italian and Spanish immigrant ancestors of Gonzalo Cabral and his business partners planted their first Malbec vines. Built in 2002 and designed with functional and aesthetic principles in mind, the 300,000-liter winery employs the latest vinification technologies. A temperature controlled cave housing French oak barrels and bottle storage area form part of the complex.
The vineyards are located in prime areas ranging in altitude from 2,400 to 3,600 feet providing ideal microclimates for the cultivation of grapes destined to be crafted into fine wines. Vines ranging in age from 8 to 90 years have been purposefully matched to soil type, location and altitude; and irrigated via a network of canals fed by the melting snows from the surrounding mountains.
The philosophy of the owners of ANTIS Wines is centered on crafting wines that reflect their passion for wine and speak of the land where the grapes were nurtured. They are constantly seeking to craft wines that are refined, elegant, well balanced and reflect good expression of varietal character. They believe that their task is to effectively recreate and enhance the potential contained in the grapes, using the best available materials and state-of-the-art knowledge and technologies. Central to this belief is the notion that great wines start on the vine and they have, therefore, located their vineyards in some of the prime areas in the region.
Meticulous viticulture, low crop yields, selective harvesting, small batch fermentation and careful barrel aging are crucial for achieving the quality they seek in their wines.
In the brief few years of their presence in the international market, ANTIS wines have begun to capture the attention of wine critics and the public.
